Elementary: Westside: News from Principal

Jennifer Drahota, Principal

September 27, 2007

Westside parents are invited to join their children for lunch.   All that we ask is that you call ahead at 644-2562 and let the kitchen know you are coming.  The cost of an adult lunch is $2.65.  Classes eat at the following times:

                        11:30 – 11:50 – 12:10 Kindergarten

                        11:50 – 12:10 – 12:30 4th and 5th grades

                        12:10 – 12:30 – 12:50 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades

WESTSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MISSION

Westside is a community whose members inspire each other to maximize their potential as lifelong learners in an everchanging world.  Together, we provide academic foundations and positive interactions in a safe, nurturing environment where individual differences are respected.  A variety of relevant experiences lead students to become responsible, resourceful and contributing citizens who are prepared for life’s transitions.

We can’t make our vision of Westside a reality if this isn’t a safe environment.

When picking up your child at 3:15 dismissal, please:

  • Have a pre-arranged place to meet such as on the 200 block of 17th street, the 1600 block of Philip Ave., the 1600 block of Park Ave., or the 200 or 300 block of 16th Street.  We cannot all wait on 17th and Philip by the school.  Traffic is too congested.

  • Don’t double and triple park by our pick-up lanes.  Our chances for injury are great when children run between vehicles to get to their waiting vehicle.

  • Make sure you and your child cross at the corners where crossing guards are trained to help make crossing easier.

We all must work together to make dismissal safe.
