I. Call to Order
Vice President Clark Froehlich called the meeting to order at 12:08 p.m.
II. Declaration of a Legal Meeting
Clark Froehlich, Vice-President, declared this a legal meeting of the Board of Education. The meeting was advertised in the Norfolk Daily News on Thursday, May 21, 2009, and was posted on the doors of the Administration Office, 512 Philip Avenue. Mr. Froehlich announced that a complete copy of the Open Meetings Act was posted on the east wall of the board room for review. A copy of the agenda is available at the desk of the recording secretary.
III. Reports and Discussion Items
III.A. Process for Replacement Board of Education Member
Ideas
The board discussed the process for selection of a board member replacement. They discussed the advertisement process, application process, and interview process.
Dr. Uhing will put together the information for advertising and will bring it to the June 8 board meeting for review.
Board members should be thinking about questions they want to be included in the interview.
IV.A. Personnel
IV.A.1. Approval of Contract -- Jerry Shepherd
This is a request for approval of a one-year, .48 F.T.E. for Mr. Shepherd. This will enable the continuation of Industrial Technology courses during the transition year to a 7th & 8th grade configuration.
IV.A.2. Approval of Contract -- Jo
Roberts
Approval of
the contract increase from .578 to 1.0 for the 2009-2010 school
year
IV.A.3. Resignation of Jerry Shepherd
Acceptance of the resignation of Mr. Shepherd, effective at the end of the 2009-2010 school year.
IV.A.4. Request for Reduction in Contract
Acceptance of
Ms. Jo Roberts request for a reduction of .422 F.T.E. contract time
effective at the end of the 2009-2010 school year.
Primary Motion Passed: Approval of the one-year contract for Jerry Shepherd, approval of contract increase for Jo Roberts from .578 to 1.0 FTE for the 2009-2010 school year, acceptance of the resignation of Mr. Shepherd at the end of the 2009-2019 school year, and acceptance of request from Jo Roberts for a reduction of .422 FTE contract time effective at the end of the 2009-2010 school year passed witha motion by Clark Froehlich and a second by Julee Pfeil.

V.A. Administrative Assignments
Dr. Uhing updated the board on the new administrative assignments for the 2009-2010 school year.
V.B. Recognize NCEA as Bargaining Agent
Primary Motion Passed: Motion to recognize the Norfolk City Education Association as the bargaining agent for non-supervisory certificated employees and school nurses passed with a motion by Clark Froehlich and a second by Alfredo Ramirez.
