Elementary: Bel Air: News from Mr. K.

May News From Mr. Kwapnioski

May 01, 2008

Retirements

I am saddened to announce that Mrs. Higgins, fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Huber, physical education teacher, and Mrs. Sovereign, music teacher, have decided to retire following the end of this school year.  They have all been instrumental in the academic and social development of many students throughout their careers.  We will miss their experience, knowledge, and excitement a great deal and we wish them well in their new ventures.

Bel Air Carnival

I would like to THANK the Bel Air PTG and parents who worked so diligently to pull together the Bel Air Carnival.  We were thrilled to see both past and present students enjoy the activities that were arranged.  A special thanks to those parents and staff that assisted with the set up and take down of all the games.  Your hard work was truly appreciated.

Loyalty Day Parade

Students and their families are invited to march behind the Bel Air banner at the Loyalty Day Parade on Friday, May 2.  The parade will begin at 4:00 PM and will start and end at the Salvation Army  parking lot on 7th and Norfolk Avenue.  Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the parade.  Students are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue clothing on this day.  The Norfolk High School Band will be leading the parade.

Picnic and Field Day

Our all school picnic and Field Day will be held at Bel Air School on Tuesday, May 20, at 12:30 PM.  If we have rain, activities will be moved in doors.  We are asking students to bring a sack lunch on May 20. If you would like a school sack lunch, please have your child inform their teacher.  The Bel Air PTG will provide hot dogs and a snack after Field Day.

Talent Show

Once again, our student council is organizing a talent show for all students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  This activity will be held on Friday, May 16 starting at 8:45 AM.  Specific details and requirements will be shared with students.  We know this will be a fun and entertaining event for our students.

Awards Assembly

This year we will be hosting only one awards assembly.  Our annual school awards assembly will be held on Wednesday, May 21 @ 9:00 AM.  All parents are invited to attend.

Last Day of School

Wednesday, May 21 will be our last day of school for students.  All students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM.  Fourth quarter Progress Reports will be sent home, as will classroom assignments for next school year.  If they have arrived, results of the MAT 8 Achievement Tests will also be included with your child’s Progress Report.

Support Staff Changes

We are saddened to inform you that Ms. Lisa Anderson, special education paraprofessional, will be leaving us for another job opportunity at the end of this school year.  She has been a chief member of our staff and we will miss her tremendously.  We would like to introduce two new members of our paraprofessional team.  Mrs. Cheri Wichman, currently with Mrs. Farnik in our autism program and Mrs. Kelly Sweigard, who will be joining the austim program this summer.  We know they will be great additions to our staff.

Substitute Paraprofessionals

Are you interested in being a substitute paraprofessional?  If you are interested, please call Mrs. LaCrosse at 644-2539.  She will advise you of the steps that need to be taken to have your name put on our substitute list for the 2008-2009 school year.

2008-2009 Calendar

Attached to this month’s newsletter is a calendar for the 2008-2009 school year.  Please remember there may be some minor changes made over the summer, and as next school year progresses.  Please watch your monthly Bel Air News for those updates.

Thank You

The Bel Air staff would like to thank parents and students for another incredible year.  We are appreciative of the hard work you put forth to make your children ready for the challenges of the school day.  Your support and dedication are key reasons why your children continue to be successful. We say goodbye to a group of skilled and conscientious fifth grade students.  We know they will represent us well at the Norfolk Middle School. Finally, we wish each and every family a relaxing and enjoyable summer and look forward to working with you next school year.
