Get Up, Get Out, Get Fit!
May 01, 2008
National Physical Education Sports month is May. Studies show that, left to their own devices, children seldom reach high enough levels of intensity to bring about the desired health benefits. Children need appropriate exercise to develop healthy hearts and lungs – meaning vigorous movement requiring 60% or more of lung capacity 5 times weekly. There is a definite link between healthy children and physical activity.
Systematic programs of rhythmic vigorous exercise can reduce the incidence of obesity, coronary heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and depression anxiety. More and more research is showing that kids who are physically fit, learn better. “Hats off” to the Bel Air community for getting your child involved in after-school activities year round. I am very proud of how hard our students worked in their Physical Education class through-out the school year, and I thank-you PARENTS for the over-whelming support!!
