The goal of this grant is to provide K-3 teachers with a comprehensive curriculum that is designed to introduce and review math concepts. The direct instruction method is a cutting-edge, research based program designed to optimize children’s learning potential. Each 50-55 minute math period is divided into four work periods covering four different topics. Within each lesson there is 75% daily review and 25% presentation of new material. Lessons are taught and reviewed until mastery is achieved. Placement tests are given at the beginning and end of the year to measure growth. Funds provided will assist with the purchase of student and teacher materials for this pilot project.
