The “JOOI of Reading” is designed to raise awareness of the importance of reading aloud to children and to match children in the primary grades with older youth serving as “reading mentors.”Books provided by this grant will provide an opportunity for children to exchange gently-used books from home for new ones as part of the “Catch & Release” book exchange. Members of the JOOI (Junior Optimist Octagon International) Clubs and older members of the elementary Alpha Clubs will serve as reading mentors for students in kindergarten through second grade.
