MANIPULATING HUMAN SYSTEMS
USING 3-D MODELS

Junior High School
Leann Widhalm

One unit of study in the new eighth grade science curriculum is Interactions of Human Systems.  Students are introduced to the basic structure of human cells all the way through the five levels of organization in the human body.  The purchase of models of a human cell as well as the ear, eye, heart, lung, and a mini torso with head will allow students who are visual and tactile learners to actually see, touch, and follow the processes that make up their own bodies.  The models of the ear and eye will also be used for the ninth grade physical science unit Sound and Light to demonstrate how the body hears sound and sees light.
