Notice - Notice of the board retreat was published in the Norfolk Daily News on Saturday, October 21, 2006.
October 24, 2006 - The Board of Education met on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at 5:00 p.m. at Prenger’s Restaurant. Members present included: Alfredo Ramirez, Brad Krivohlavek, Julee Pfeil, Paul Cazabon, Jane McDaniel, and Clark Froehlich. Absent: None. Also present were Superintendent Randy Nelson and Steve Joel (present for part of meeting only).
Call to Order, Open Meetings Act - Alfredo Ramirez, President, called the meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. and declared a legally advertised meeting of the Board of Education. He announced that a copy of the Open Meetings Act was available for anyone to read.
Steve Joel – Supt. Search Firm- Dr. Steve Joel, representative of McPherson and Jacobson Superintendent’s Search Firm, was introduced. Steve made a presentation to the board on the importance of attaining outside, professional help when seeking a new superintendent.
Operating Principles - At 6:00 p.m. the Board ate dinner followed by a brief presentation by Steve Joel on School Board Operating Principles. The board decided to have Dr. Joel come back later in the spring to do a more in-depth workshop on these principles.
Future plans for Facilities and Programs Discussed- The board used the next hour and a half to discuss possible plans for facilities and program usage for the next 3-5 years. Dr. Nelson shared his ideas for the board to consider. The board will need to make some important decisions regarding the remaining district facilities (Jefferson, Lincoln, Northern Hills, and Washington) so Beckenhauer can move forward with construction.
Adjournment - No other business, the board adjourned at 8:26 p.m.
